The FBI continues to investigate allegations of corruption within the office of former Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colorado), The Denver Post reports.
Campbell retired last year after the investigation started. He has said he is not a target but the paper said he has paid more than $66,000 in legal fees to the Washington law firm of Patton Boggs since the probe began.
The probe centers on claims that Campbell's former chief of staff inflated an aide's salary in order to take a kickback. Most of his staff has been interviewed, the paper said.
Also, Campbell's office is accused of pressuring a federal drug enforcement task force to award a $1.2 million contract to a firm with political friends in Colorado.
