The Swinomish Tribe of Washington and five federal agencies are being sued by Skagit County over the tribe's proposal for a 1,200-slip marina.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued a conditional permit to the tribe pending a review of the project's impact on threatened chinook salmon. The tribe says a study is underway.

But the county says the Army Corps should rescind the permit until the process is complete. The county is represented by Preston Gates and Ellis, where former U.S. senator and tribal sovereignty foe Slade Gorton [Firm Bio] is of counsel.

Skagit County is also fighting the tribe's request to reclaim a total of 1,100 acres within reservation boundaries.
