Yankton Sioux woman joins IHS management office


Phyllis G. Eddy, a member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe, has been appointed as the deputy director of management operations for the Indian Health Service (IHS).

Eddy, an IHS employee since 1978, will serve as the principal advisor to the IHS director for the management of IHS operations. She will be responsible for providing management direction to the IHS program offices, including implementing agency goals and mission; providing overall organization management to improve agency performance; developing strategic plans; and planning, directing, and evaluating the operations of the Headquarters functions, authorities, and responsibilities in support of the director.

Dr. Charles W. Grim, the director of the IHS announced the appointment on February 18. "Ms. Eddy brings to this position excellent experience related to Agency resources, organizational structure, operational function, policy development and implementation, and federal authorities," he said.

Eddy holds a master of science in social work degree from the University of Tennessee, and a master of public administration degree from the University of Southern California.
