Joseph Martin, the president of the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute in New Mexico, has resigned effective March 4, The Albuquerque Journal reports.
A Bureau of Indian Affairs spokesperson would not comment on Martin's reasons for leaving the school, located in Albuquerque.
But Martin has been the subject of complaints from some students who questioned the suspension of the running coach. Michael Daney has been on paid leave since last fall.
Some faculty also criticized Martin's administrative decisions, saying they were shuffled around for no reason.
After the complaints surfaced, the BIA decided to review SIPI's procedures, policies, contracts, administrative personnel and functions.
