California's only tribal college remains closed

D-Q University, the only tribal college in California, remains closed but some students refuse to leave the dorms as two factions try to sort out the mess.

One faction is led by Cindy LaMarr, former president of the National Indian Education Association. The other is led by D-Q president Victor Gabriel.

LaMarr's group fired Gabriel after D-Q lost its accreditation. The school was in "Show Cause" status with the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges and lost federal funding after Native enrollment dipped below 50 percent.

LaMarr hopes to reorganize the school and get students enrolled elsewhere. It could take at least two years to regain accreditation.
