Two Washington tribes have acquired land around a sacred rock in hopes of creating a sanctuary and habitat preserve.
The Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe and the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe acquired a total of 100 acres next to Tamanowas Rock. The rock and the surrounding area are used for ceremonies and as a lookout.
The rock itself is still on private property and the tribes hope to buy the land in the future.
