The Museum of New Mexico's Office of Archaeological Studies is recommending the preservation of an ancient pueblo that is buried beneath Santa Fe's city hall.
In a new report, the office said no construction should take place at the village, which dates back to between A.D. 1350 and 1400. The site is relatively undisturbed, the report said, even though the city hall, a convention center and a parking lot are located at street level.
The city is proposing to build a new $42 million civic center at the site.
