Elderly members of the Oglala Sioux Tribe are seeking assistance with their heating bills.

Some cite the case of 82-year-old Rolland Morrison Sr., who is in the hospital recovering from a severe case of pneumonia. He had no source of heat or food at his remote cabin.

The tribe is reaching out to elders to inform them about the federal Low Income Energy Assistance Program. The program pays the heating bills of citizens.

South Dakota tribes are receiving a total of $150,666 under the program. The state says more money is available, with applications due March 15.
