A former executive for the Assiniboine and Gros Ventre tribes of Montana was sentenced to 1 1/2 years in prison and ordered to pay restitution for embezzling thousands of dollars.

Gregory Morris Powderface, 36, pleaded guilty in October to theft from a tribal organization and to filing a false tax return. He used his positions in the tribe to obtain more than $97,000 in goods and services for personal use, prosecutors said.

Powderface, a tribal member, was the second person charged with stealing from the tribe last year.
