President Bush has nominated a replacement for former Interior Deputy Secretary J. Steven Griles.
Lynn Scarlett, the assistant secretary of policy, management and budget, is being promoted to the number 2 post at Interior. She has been with the department since July 2001.
Scarlett handles budget matters and was responsible for a letter last March that warned of budget cuts. The Bureau of Indian Affairs was reduced by nearly $110 million on Monday.
