An eighth-grader from Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico is competing for the Youth of the Year award from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Montana Augustine, 15, first has to win the regional title. That competition takes place March 18 at the Boys & Girls Club on the Acoma reservation.
Augustine says she is ready for the challenge. She likes public speaking and hopes to become an entrepreneur when she finishes college.
The national award comes with a $10,000 scholarship. She already has a $1,000 scholarship as the Acoma Youth of the Year.
