The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Reservation in Oregon are planning for a brighter and better future, as economic opportunities improve.

People used to leave the reservation to work but now they are coming back, said tribal executive director Donald Sampson. "We are experiencing a renaissance," he told The East Oregonian.

Tribal officials are laying out plans for a coal-fired power plant, a wind-power project, a business park, a new government complex, a larger health clinic and athletic club and an expansion of the casino resort. Sampson says gaming opened up more opportunities.
