A 13-year-old Navajo boy who was stabbed several times by the man who killed his mother is in a custody dispute.
Shiloh Edsitty was orphaned by the November 8 attack that left his mother Teresa Tilden, 31, dead. He was stabbed five times in the neck, shoulder and chest, allegedly by James Valdez, who lived with the family.
Edsitty is in the temporary guardianship of a woman who once taught on the Navajo Nation and was friends with his mother. Vivian Powell wants Edsitty live with her in New York but the Navajo Nation is concerned about placing him in a non-Indian home.
