A judge in California has ordered two factions of the Ohlone-Costanoan Esselen Nation to mediate their leadership dispute.
One faction of the tribe is led by Rudy Rosales, the former chairman. The other is led by Duane Thielman, a former vice chairman.
The two sides are in disagreement over how to run the 500-member tribe. Each group has held elections, claiming to be the rightful government.
The tribe lacks federal recognition. A petition was filed in 1992.
