Navajo, Hopi reservations recovering from storm

Parts of the Navajo and Hopi reservations that were hit by a severe winter storm last week are slowly starting to recover.

The snow and rainfall caused muddy conditions in Arizona and New Mexico. Some people in rural areas have been stranded for more than a week.

The Navajo Nation approved $1 million in emergency funds for Operation Hashtl'ish and $3 million for 110 chapters to use. Hashtl'ish means mud in the Navajo language.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency visited the two reservations on Monday to assess the damage. President Bush could declare the area a disaster, leading to funding for the Navajo Nation and the Hopi Tribe.
