The Rosebud Sioux Tribe of South Dakota has rejected surplus military housing over concerns of asbestos, construction and cost.

Ellsworth Air Force Base is offering 54 homes to reservations in the state. But since the homes would arrive in the dead of winter and require extra work and money, the tribe's housing authority has declined the offer.

The tribe recently accepted four homes from the base but delays related to weather and construction have prevented the families from moving in.

The donations are being facilitated by the Walking Shield American Indian Society.
