A series of investigations have been launched into the fatal shooting of a Native man on the Norway House First Nation in Manitoba.

Dennis St. Paul, 28, was killed by a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer on Monday. Paul was being arrested for parole violations.

The RCMP is investigating the shooting and Native residents will oversee the probe. Separately, the Manitoba government, an independent Canadian agency and a third-party police force will try to determine what happened.

Norway House Chief Ron Evans said the RCMP's relationship with the First Nation was deteriorating prior to the shooting. There was no senior officer on the reserve, he said.
