Former employees allege bias at Leech Lake Tribe

Eleven former employees of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe have filed suit against the Minnesota tribe.

The former employees of the tribe's Legal Department allege they were wrongfully terminated after the June 8 election. They say their civil rights were violated in retaliation for their perceived support of former chairman Peter White and ousted secretary/treasurer Arthur Archie LaRose.

But the new administration of Chairman George Goggleye says the employees were terminated with just cause. A council member who was elected in June said the former tribal attorney and controller are being investigated by federal authorities.
