The Utah System of Higher Education has reported a rise in the Native American student population.
According to the data, a total of 1,616 Native students are enrolled at nine institutions this year. This figure represents 1.1 percent of the total student population.
Overall, officials say minorities make up 8 percent of the student population, up from 7.8 percent last year.
