Ottawa University might host a "teach-in" to discuss the school's use of an Indian mascot.
Local American Indian Movement activists say the school's "Giego" mascot is offensive. Giego is said to represent the "spirit" of the Ottawa Tribe. A second mascot, "Gibby," is an otter, the tribe's sacred animal.
Provost Maurice Bryan suggested the school might host an educational forum next year and invite the Ottawa Tribe of Oklahoma to discuss the issue.
