An 18-year-old man is recovering after being shot in the head by a police officer on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Reservation in Arizona.
Joseph Wellington was reportedly speeding when an officer tried to pull him over. He refused to stop, leading to a chase involving several other police cars. He was shot when he tried to avoid the squad cars.
The shot blast destroyed Wellington's right ear and left a deep gash in his right shoulder. He is awaiting reconstructive surgery. Federal authorities charged him with assault as a result of the incident.
