Theresa "Huck" Two Bulls, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, was elected to the South Dakota Legislature on Tuesday.
Two Bulls is a former secretary and vice president of the tribe. She beat incumbent Republican Sen. Michael LaPointe by 5,629 to 2,535.
Two Bulls will represent District 27. Two other Natives from that district, incumbent Reps. Jim Bradford and Paul Valandra, were re-elected as well. Both men are Democrats.
LaPointe, a Rosebud Sioux, had been appointed to his seat.
