Apache leader returns to work sans paycheck

The leader of the Fort Sill Apache Tribe of Oklahoma returned to work on Wednesday after beating an ouster attempt.

Jeff Houser obtained a court order reinstating his position. But he said the tribal council refused to sign his paycheck.

Another Apache leader, Alonzo Chalepah of the Apache Tribe, is still on the outs. The tribal council accused him of spending $1,193 in tribal funds on a drinking binge. He was supposed to use the money to go to the opening of the National Museum of the American Indian but says the money, his plane ticket and his itinerary were stolen.
