The president of Central Michigan University has ordered a correction to the school's tuition waiver policy that cut some Indian students out of their treaty right to an education.

The Washington Treaty of 1836 guarantees an education for tribal members in the state. But the school had been adding extra requirements not found in the treaty or in a state law enacted to implement the treaty.

Last year, the school waived tuition for 98 Indian students. This year, 94 students are covered.
