Metis man charged for hunting without license

A Metis hunter licensed by the Manitoba Mtis Federation has been charged by the province for hunting without a license.

The Manitoba Mtis Federation says it has a right to regulate hunting among members. Canada's Supreme Court ruled that Mtis have constitutionally-protected rights as Native communities and urged governments to negotiate agreements.

Talks between Manitoba and the Mtis have broken down. The province says it will not recognize Mtis hunting cards.
