Washington state Rep. John McCoy (D), the only Indian in the Legislature, is being criticized by his opponent for supporting tribal issues.
McCoy introduce several bills to help tribes, including his own Tulalip Tribes. But Kim Halvorson, a Republican who lives on the Tulalip Reservation, claims it is a conflict of interest.
Halvorson formed a group to oppose McCoy and the tribe's efforts to assert authority over non-Indians. She says she will represent "all" residents in the 38th House District, which includes the reservation.
