Kent Ware Sr., a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma and a World War II veteran, died August 13 at the age of 81.
Friends hope to carry out his dream of a monument for Indian veterans. Ware was raising money for the $2.7 million American Indian Veterans Memorial at the Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix, Arizona, where he lived.
Ware received four Bronze Stars, a Distinguished Flying Cross and a Purple Heart for his service in World War II. He will be honored during a program at the Heard Museum on November 11.
