Judge dismisses charges in Nez Perce hunting case

A judge in Idaho has ruled that the Nez Perce treaty allows hunting on ceded lands without a state license.

Two tribal members, a 77-year-old man and his son, had been charged with violating state law. The men had killed two elk after the hunting season ended. The elk were used for a tribal ceremony.

The judge dismissed all the charges against the men, saying treaty rights protected the pair.
