A judge in Connecticut has upheld a $6.8 million award against the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation's hotel company, raising the judgment to $14 million.
Three former executives sued after they were fired from the hotel. They said they were the victims of retaliation for speaking out against tribal members and relatives of tribal members.
A judge originally awarded the executives $6.8 million. Yesterday, $3 million in punitive damages was added plus 12 percent interest dating to 2000.
The tribe could lose the hotel for failing to pay the award, The New London Day reported. The executives placed a $10 million attachment on the property.
The hotel is located off the reservation.
