A judge in Ontario, Canada, is holding back the release of tapes related to the shooting of a Native man by police.
Dudley George, 38, was killed when police opened fire on Native protesters at Ipperwash Provincial Park. One officer was convicted of criminal negligence causing death and resigned from the force.
The province of Ontario opened an inquiry into George's death. But the justice said he won't release two audio tapes said to contain "explosive" evidence until the appropriate time.
Already, a videotape surfaced that caught police officers making racist statements about the protesters. On the tape, one officer makes a reference to a "great big fat **** Indian" while another suggests supplying Natives with alcohol in order to "bait them."
