Native students don't celebrate Columbus Day

Native students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and at Michigan State University didn't celebrate Columbus Day on Monday.

The University of Nebraska Intertribal Exchange hosted a panel discussion and presentations to give another view of the man credited with "discovering" America. Students heard about atrocities attributed to Columbus after he arrived to the Caribbean in 1492.

At MSU, the North American Indigenous Student Organization hosted Indigenous People's Day. Students wanted to draw attention to the destructive legacy of Columbus and celebrate their heritage.
