Treatment program for Native youth called failure

The Canadian government wasted $6.5 million (Canadian) on a treatment program for Native youth from the Innu community in Labrador, a doctor says.

Dr. Ted Rosales treated some of the children, many of whom suffered from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. He said the government didn't do enough to follow-up after the detox program, which took place outside the community.

Rosales said FAS is rampant in Natuashish and is linked to a rash of suicides there.
