The Department of Justice has awarded two grants totaling more than $600,000 to combat domestic violence on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation in South Dakota.

The White Buffalo Calf Woman Society received a $306,005 grant. The money will be used to operate the oldest shelter for domestic violence victims in Indian Country and to promote public education programs.

The Rosebud Sioux Tribe received a $299,996 grant. The money will be used to establish a reservation-wide coalition to address sexual and domestic violence and to expand services for victims of domestic violence and promote public education programs.
