Indians getting ready for Republican convention

The Republican National Convention kicks off next week in New York City and there will be plenty of Indians in town.

John Guevremont, a member of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut, Dan Lewis, member of the Navajo Nation, Rod Van Mechelen, a member of the Cowlitz Tribe of Washington, John Gonzales, of San Ildelfonso Pueblo in New Mexico, are among the delegates. Bruce Whalen, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, is an alternate.

The non-partisan National Congress of American Indians will also be there. There are plans for an informal Native American caucus during the convention, which runs August 30-September 2.
