President George W. Bush met briefly with Navajo Nation Vice President Frank Dayish Jr., during a campaign stop in New Mexico on Thursday.
According to The Farmington Daily Times, Bush and Dayish took a photo together. A local Navajo Democrat said the visit was a political ploy and that tribal issues were not discussed.
Bush spoke at a rally in Farmington near the Navajo Nation and made a brief mention of Dayish but did not go into any tribal issues, according to a transcript of his remarks. Nevertheless, a good number of Navajos who support the president attended the event, according to The Daily Times. Bush pointed out one man who carried a sign "Navajo Democrats for Bush."
Bush has visited New Mexico four times. The state went to former vice president Al Gore in 2000 by 366 votes.
