Montana's Public School Renewal Commission voted to approve a plan that will fully implement the state's Indian Education For All act.
The act calls for public school curriculums to teach about Indian history, culture and government. But tribal leaders have complained that the state hasn't funded or carried out the act.
Rep. Carol Juneau, an Indian lawmaker, introduced the plan. She attached a statement calling for the state to eliminate disparities in educational achievement among Indian and non-Indian students.
Two Republican leaders voted against the plan. One said he didn't have enough time to review it while the other objected to the part about eliminating disparities.
