The California Senate voted 22-10 on Monday to ban the use of "Redskins" at public schools.
The bill still needs approval in the Assembly. If it passes there, it will go to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) for his signature.
The ban on the name doesn't go into effect until January 1, 2006.
