Omaha Tribe re-enacts Lewis and Clark exchange

Members of the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska re-enacted a visit to the gravesite of Omaha Chief Blackbird that took place 200 years ago with the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Blackbird had died of smallpox four years prior to the expedition. But Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery paid their respects to him when they entered Omaha territory on August 11, 1804.

The re-enactment included an exchange of the Omaha and U.S. flags. Some modern details were added to recognize the Omaha Tribe's sovereignty.

The event took place in Macy, Nebraska, on the reservation.
