The Fox Lake Cree Nation of Manitoba will receive $19 million in compensation for damages caused by hydro dams on the Nelson River.
The tribe's traditional hunting land was destroyed by the dams. The government of Manitoba will pay for the losses.
The deal clears the way for construction of a new $5 billion hydro project. First Nation leaders say they will be consulted this time around.
