Franklin Firesteel, an instructor in the Dakota language, died of liver failure on June 30. He was 51.
Firesteel's Dakota name was Isna Hoksina, or Lone Boy. He was committed to preserving Dakota language, culture and history, which he taught at the University of Minnesota and to tribes
Firesteel was a member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Dakota tribe in South Dakota.
