Jacob Viarrial, the longtime governor of Pojoaque Pueblo in New Mexico, has died.
The cause of death was not reported. Viarrial had served as governor for more than 20 years.
Viarrial's tribe was the sole holdout to new gaming compacts with the state. He refused to pay revenues to the state under an old compact, saying the sharing rate was too high.
