Project promotes reservation, prehistoric site

The state of South Dakota is providing $100,000 to a unique partnership designed to promote tourism on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation.

The Four Bands Community Fund on the reservation has joined with the Prehistoric Indian Village in Mitchell. As part of a program called "Native Discovery: A Bridge to New Beginnings," they are promoting the reservation and tribal culture.

Reservation residents will provide dance, music, history, artwork and other cultural and historical demonstrations at the village. In exchange, the site will provide information about visiting the reservation.
