Drunk driver blamed for hitting two Indian kids

Authorities in New Mexico arrested a 29-year-old man with a history of drunk driving for striking two Indian children with his car, The Albuquerque Journal reports.

The accident occurred at Cochiti Pueblo. A witness said Jason Lovato hit the two kids, a brother and a sister, and fled the scene. State police and Bureau of Indian Affairs officers later arrested him at another tribe's gas station.

The boy, 14, was in critical condition and on life-support as of last night, The Journal reported. His sister, 13, also suffered injuries that were not as threatening.

Lovato, a member of Santo Domingo Pueblo, has at least two drunken driving convictions on his record and was cited on at least three other occasions for drunk driving.
