Campaign claims Morongo Band wants to take over

An effort to incorporate the town of Cabazon, California, into a city is using the Morongo Band of Mission Indians as a threat.

Cabazon County Water District board President Harvey Williamson sent a letter to area residents saying that becoming a city "is only one sure way for us to block" the tribe's alleged efforts, The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported.

The town has about 3,000 residents and sits next to the tribe's new $250 million gaming resort, which will open this year.
