Few Oklahoma tribes have a policy affecting same-sex marriages, The Daily Oklahoman reports.
Of several tribes the paper contacted, only the Creek Nation and the Iowa Tribe define marriage as between a man and a woman. The rest say it would be up to tribal officials to define a policy.
The issue is being raised because a lesbian couple was awarded a marriage license by the Cherokee Nation. But after getting married yesterday, the tribe's court did not accept it.
Tribal leaders are pushing to ban same-sex marriages.
