Film to tell story of imprisoned Chiricahua Apaches

A documentary is in the works to tell the story of Chiricahua Apaches who were imprisoned by the U.S. government in the late 1800s.

"Wild Justice" is a joint effort that involves members of the Chiricahua, Mescalero and Fort Sill Apache tribes. Tribal members will be co-producing the documentary and assisting the production.

The movie will feature interviews with the last few living ex-prisoners and prisoners’ relatives. The Chiricahuas, who don't have separate federal recognition, were shipped to Florida and later to Oklahoma for resisting U.S. efforts to push them off their traditional territory and onto a reservation. About 300 died during the imprisonment.
