Anderson calls tribal leaders, teachers 'dinosaurs'

Assistant secretary Dave Anderson spoke at commencement exercises at Haskell Indian Nations University on Friday, calling on tribal leaders and teachers to "change" because they are "becoming irrelevant."

Anderson led the crowd through his trademark cheer of "I feel happy. I feel healthy. I feel terrific" three times, The Lawrence Journal-World reported. "I thought he was terrific," Scotty Harjo, a retired Haskell coach, told the paper.

To tribal leaders, Anderson said: "You have to change. You know what? You are dinosaurs; you are becoming irrelevant." Then he added: "That goes for you too, teachers. A lot of students in this room know more about computers than you do."

About 160 students received two- and four-year degrees.
