No one was more surprised than Duane “Chili” Yazzie when New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D) said the Navajo leader would be going to the Democratic National Convention as an official delegate.
But it turns out the invite was not official. Yazzie, the president of the Shiprock Chapter of the Navajo Nation, can't go as a delegate because he wasn't chosen by the state Democratic party.
Yazzie was understandably upset by the latest development but said he would go if Richardson took him as a guest. He is running for re-election as chapter president.
