Pennsylvania governor seeks dismissal of land claim

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D) asked a federal court on Friday to dismiss a land claim by the Delaware Nation of Oklahoma.

The tribe is seeking ownership of 315 acres in land allotted to a Delaware ancestor. The lawsuit claims the land was illegally taken from Chief Moses Tunda Tatamy.

Rendell responded by saying the land was owned by an individual and not the tribe. He said the tribe hasn't made its case that the land was stolen.

The Delaware Nation and the Delaware Tribe, also of Oklahoma, say they are willing to settle historical claims in Pennsylvania for gaming rights.
