Panel blasts media coverage of California tribes

The University of California-Los Angeles played host to the "American Indian Issues and the California Press" symposium on Wednesday.

Tribal leaders and members at a panel discussion said tribal views are often misrepresented in the media. They said the press doesn't spend enough time understanding the history and culture behind issues, particularly Indian gaming.

Panel participants said both sides should try to work with each other. California is home to the largest number of Native Americans and the largest number of tribes.
